Fashion Photography Training: Lighting (Part 1)

News

This past June, our Kelowna Digital Photography students took part in an incredible fashion photography shoot with Kevin Trowbridge, creating their own visual masterpieces. Kevin is the department head for Digital Photography at our Kelowna campus, and organized the shoot which was part of the Lighting for Stills 200 course which students take in their third quarter of the program.

Kevin split the photography students into two groups to have more time with each individual student. This makes the amount of time a student gets to spend one on one with Kevin even greater.  The shoots took place at Summerhill Pyramid Winery and Action Metals.

As Kevin explains it, this hands-on shoot is a great experience for the students: “The students can experience a full production shoot and work with professional models and stylists. This course project lets students work in teams to help each other achieve their desired goals. Out of this comes excellent experimentation and improvement in quality in each student’s work.”

We have to thank all those who helped make this experience possible. MC College did both hair and make-up for the models, and the models came from Allan International Models. The Fashion Design and Merchandising students also partook in the event as their creations were on the models.

Watch out for part two and three of the fashion photography training (lighting) for videos of the shoot, including an interview with one of the students (Behind the Scenes), and a How-To video created by Kevin on how to create and use your own alternative light source modifiers.
