Brandon Cruz Bebe, aka BDice and Dorion Jewers, aka DJ Initial, rocked the lunch hour today at Centre for Arts and Technology Kelowna. As Kelowna Audio Engineering grad DJ Initial worked his magic, BDice free styled for his audience as they entered the downstairs lobby of CAT.
Today was a special lunch hour for the school as it marked the one-year anniversary of our Music@Lunch series hosted by the Audio Engineering department.
Once everyone found their seats, audio engineering school student BDice shared the first song he’d ever written. The track, fondly entitled, “Awesome,” had been written and recorded prior to BDice attending the Audio Engineering program at CAT. “The Fresh Prince son couldn’t be this fly, so ask how I feel and you know I reply like I feel so awesome,” clearly summed up how the young rapper is feeling about his current road to success.
As BDice engaged the crowd with his high energy and memorable lyrics, onlookers couldn’t help but become completly taken in by the show. Toes tapped, hands clapped and everyone cheered as BDice moved forward onto the next part of his act.
BDice is most recognized for his Daily 16 project where he wrote/recorded a sixteen bar verse every day for a year. “In love with the grind and the music I make,” sang BDice. Each of his songs effectively conveyed his belief in working hard, doing what you love and making your dreams come true. Background tracks ranged from Notorious B.I.G. to Mac Miller. “Grab your dreams and earn it,” BDice sang as the celebration of the first year anniversary of Music@Lunch came to an end. BDice smiled as DJ Initial spun the next track, asking if there was anyone in the audience who wanted to try their hand at free styling. With no takers, BDice and DJ Initial threw it down one final time for their fans.
