Centre for Arts and Technology will be partnering up with Kelowna Community Food Bank this Tuesday, August 27th from 8:30am-11:30am to hold a fundraiser for their No Hungry Children campaign. The fundraiser’s goal is to raise food and monetary donations to continue supporting the specialized children’s programs at the Kelowna Community Food Bank.
The No Hungry Children campaign has given the Centre for Arts and Technology’s Graphic Design and Web Development students the opportunity to gain real life work experience. Students have been put into groups to compete against each other in creating updated No Hungry Children campaign graphics. The student’s designs will be on display at Walmart and the Centre for Arts & Technology during the fundraiser. Students, staff and the public are encouraged to stop by, check out the student’s work and give a food or monetary donation to whichever group they believe put forth the best work and should win the competition.
Aside from the work experience the students are gaining, this also provides them with the opportunity to give back to the community. The Kelowna Food Bank requires ample donations in order to maintain their specialized children’s programs – which includes the Snack Pack program. Students will be accepting not only nonperishable food donations, but monetary donations as well so the Kelowna Food Bank can purchase fresh produce and dairy to ensure those who require the Kelowna Food Bank’s services obtain a well-rounded meal.
The Kelowna Community Food Bank has grown from serving 600 people a year to nearly 40,000 people a year. Of these 40,000 people, 40% are under the age of 16. In 2012, the Kelowna Community Food Bank was visited by over 10,000 children and has had over 5,000 visits in 2013 already.
