The best part of the Digital Filmmaking program at Centre for Arts and Technology was getting to learn from real film industry professionals. It helped me in every way to see what mistakes I should not make in real life in the industry.

I didn’t get jobs immediately after graduation, but I continued to build my portfolio, and took contracts that started to lead to jobs. I’ve since started my own production company, “One Thyme Pictures.” We produce professional videos including light comedies and documentary pieces, some of which have been broadcast around the world. We also offer event cinematography, corporate video production, video editing services, promotional videos, music videos, green screen services and more.

Your path depends not only on the school. Centre for Arts and Technology will help you in every aspect to achieve your goal. But for career success, you need to work hard! You need to take your school projects and assignments seriously and as professional as possible, as if they were your real life contract projects!

As a mature student, I had a fair bit of experience with websites and creating print pieces, but I knew there were some large holes in my skill set. When I reviewed Centre for Arts and Technology’s program, it offered a solid core of the technical skills I wanted to learn, but also touch on areas like photography, video, audio, law, and otherwise, that are complimentary skills that I can now offer to my graphic design clients.

My favourite part of the program – and that which you can’t get by just learning design programs on your own – was the interaction with other like-minded students. The school attracts such a wide variety of people with different skills and interested, and it was amazingly powerful to interact with my classmates on projects. Getting opinions, providing feedback, and working together allowed me to create projects that were greater than the sum of the techniques used to create them.

Since graduating, I have been freelancing under my own company, Digital Ink Media. I initially thought I would like to work at a larger agency, but the program helped me decide that freelancing was the way to go for me. I always listened carefully to the industry advice given by my instructors, including growing my network and getting involved in community projects. This has allowed me to build my business straight out of school and has really paid off!

The instructors went “over and above” helping me gain the skills I needed to succeed and here I am a month before graduation with a full-time job in my field….

I’m extremely happy that I took the VHA course and pursued a career in animal care. It has been a life-changing experience with lots of personal growth, and the knowledge I gained from this program has been essential in the field. I would certainly recommend this course to anyone who wishes to follow a career path in animal care.

In late October 2007 I was biking to my nowhere job and I had an epiphany. Although I had a BA under my belt, I was going nowhere in my professional life. In fact, I was a call centre agent. I knew something had to change, and after looking at the economy and what jobs would best suit me I decided I would become a computer network administrator. I checked out several colleges that offered networking programs, but I knew as soon as I spoke with the staff at Centre for Arts and Technology that I had found the school I wanted.

In spite of the fact that I was almost 40 years old and had little computer experience, the networking instructors took the time necessary to ensure that I understood all the subjects and was keeping up with the class. They also made certain I didn’t feel out of place amongst the 20-something’s that made up the vast majority of the student body. After I graduated I was able to quickly find work, in spite of the recession that we were in. I would highly recommend the networking course offered by Centre of Arts and Technology. I now feel as though my career is definitely on track!

At CAT, all courses in the NAS program are an introduction to Cisco, Microsoft and Linux technologies. They are predominantly aimed to give you a leg up on the IT industry. Before I enrolled into this program, I had no prior knowledge or experience with computers besides gaming. So, within the 1-year NAS program at CAT I went from a complete n00b to a corporate desktop support position. Within 8 months of working while studying hard on the side, I now provide basic network support.

Take advantage of what the school offers you! You have so many people that want to make your experience a positive one and they all want to see you succeed. Never be scared to ask for help or direction! In my course specifically, the fact that the instructors are from the industry gave us so much insight on everything and made going from school to a clinic so much easier and less scary!
