They focus on the intricacies of acting for the camera, working on emotional depth and on-camera techniques. Students explore the application of improvisation in comedic contexts, refining comedic timing and the creation of spontaneous humor. The curriculum integrates dance, body movement clowning, and yoga, allowing actors to embody diverse characters and enhance their physical expressiveness. Students will learn advanced vocal dynamics, including projection, resonance, and vocal modulation.

In the final quarter, students advance their comprehension in acting, employability, improvisation, movement, and voice, preparing for successful careers in the industry. They explore advanced techniques for film and TV, honing skills in emotional depth and nuanced character portrayal. Students will focus on ensemble dynamics and live performance hosting, as well as advanced body conditioning, holistic wellness practices, and character exploration. Students will also consolidate their learning to create a compelling body of work for their portfolios, positioning themselves for gainful employment in the entertainment industry.

There’s a quiz coming up next week on working dogs, so you settle in with your classmates to test each other!

Photography is an exciting and dynamic industry, with a blend of artistic and technical skills needed to succeed. Our program covers both aspects in depth, giving you the opportunity to develop both your creative eye and technical prowess. We love to see when program applicants have a demonstrable passion for their industry, but no formal experience as a photographer is required for entrance to this program. Centre for Arts and Technology is a modern, state-of-the-art campus complete with two photo and film studios and an equipment cage with bodies, lenses and other gear available for students. Our studios feature a seamless white backdrop, adjustable natural lighting, professional-grade studio lighting and lighting modifiers. The equipment cage has a variety of high-end camera bodies and lenses for student use. Students are required to have their own digital camera for entrance into this program (see question 2), but with our bookable gear on campus, you will have the opportunity to experiment with a wide array of equipment. A day in the life of a student in the Network Administration & Security program at CAT is varied and your schedule will differ from Quarter to Quarter, so the following is only an example of a “potential” day. 

Since this program is offered online only, your commute to school will be exceptionally short (aka no need to even leave your house)! You make yourself a cup of coffee, have a quick breakfast, and settle at your desk. No desk? No problem. We don’t frown upon tuning into classes from the couch, as long as you’re focused and comfortable, that’s all we ask.  

Your first class of the day is Data Centre Operations Fundamentals and after a brief lecture from your Instructor, you’re given time to work on an ongoing project: exploring the physical and logical components of data center infrastructure. You really feel like you’ve been learning a lot and your brain is full of plans for the future! 

Lunchtime! All that brain exertion from the morning has definitely left your stomach growling, so you head for the kitchen to see what you can scrounge up. 

After lunch, you settle back in for your last class of the day; Professional Development. Today you’re going to be diving into Personality Dimensions and starting on a self-portrait assignment. You’ll also be discussing how to present yourself professionally in future job interviews. Even though Professional Development isn’t focused on networking, security or administration, it has become one of your favorite classes. Learning the tech skills needed is what you came for, but learning how to set yourself apart from future competition is proving invaluable. 

You have a free block next, so you switch gears and work on a homework assignment from your Networking with Cisco course. The assignment requires you to build a virtual network, connecting multiple locations of a singular company.  You’re making good progress and are looking forward to turning in your assignment next week.

Industry and vendor certifications are an important part of your toolkit as you move into your career. Though these certifications are not included in the curriculum of our program, upon graduation, you will have the knowledge and eligibility to write up to 5 certifications for extra accreditation. This assignment has a presentation component, so you practice your presentation with a classmate and before you know it the class is over! 

Another free block is up next, and you’ve chosen to dedicate some time working on your self portrait for Professional Development. You’ve chosen a mixed media design and so far, you’re really excited about your progress! 

Lunchtime rolls around and this time you find yourself craving some sushi. Good thing there’s lots of great options within walking distance to campus! 

Only one class left this afternoon: Tarket Market, Meaning and Messaging, so you meet up with some classmates and head to class. Over the last week you’ve been working on a group assignment called Persona Creation. The goal is to create a persona for a CAT program. Essentially you need to outline who the typical student is for this program and include relevant information including geographic, demographic, psychographic and other behavioural details. Lastly, you must create a design that uses all of this collected information to effectively market to your “persona”. Your group has arranged for a student from your assigned program to visit you in class so you can conduct an in-depth interview. Questions are prepped, you’re ready to go! 

That’s it for another day on campus. You can’t believe this is school!! You’ve always been drawn to art and design and you have to pinch yourself that you finally get to pursue this as a career!

No! While having a computer at home could be beneficial for doing homework, students are provided with enough lab time in the school’s facilities to cover all homework and assignments. You can show up to our program with no equipment of your own, and still get as much benefit out of the program as someone who has built a home studio.

No. Similar to the answer above, having software at home will always be a benefit, but is not required as the school’s facilities are all equipped with the all the software you will require. If you decide you do wish to purchase either software, you may be eligible for student discounts. A day in the life of an audio student at CAT is varied and as a student 

you may find yourself in a few different classrooms around campus. Schedules vary from Quarter to Quarter, so this is just an example of what you could expect.  

If you drive, you’ll park your car in our student-designated parking lot and make your way across the Landmark Plaza to our campus! If you’ve opted to walk, bike or take the bus, you’ll find lots of great scenery on the short walk from the bike lock-up or transit stop to campus. Perhaps you feel the need for some extra caffeine to get you through the day, so you stop at the coffee shop on your way to class. After grabbing coffee, you stop by the Equipment Cage to sign out some gear needed for class. On your list of needed gear is all the microphones, headphones, and cables you’ll need for your session in the Live Room today. Your first class of the day is one of your favorite classes, Recording and Production. You love being able to be hands-on and today you and your classmates are practicing setting up a new type of microphone in the Live Room of Studio A. You’ll be using Pro Tools to record and have an interesting local musical artist coming in to participate in the class.  

Your second class of the day is a break period, so you meet up with your project partners in the Student Lounge and continue working on your upcoming presentation for Music Theory. The goal of this assignment is to create and extract a one-to-one cover of a popular pop song, and you and your team are feeling pretty confident! 

Lunchtime! You take a much needed break and decide that some tacos are what you’re craving today. There’s a lot of great cafes and eateries around campus, so you head over to the restaurant that serves the best tacos in town, just a short walk across the plaza. #satisfied  

After fuelling up, you head back to the main campus building for a Professional Development class. Today you’re going to be diving into Personality Dimensions and starting on a self-portrait assignment. You’ll also be discussing how to find the balance between being a creative individual and securing success for yourself professionally, a topic we take great pride in at CAT. #nostarvingartistshere.  

Last class of the day is Ableton and you’re really starting to get the hang of the software’s interface and today you’re going to be diving deeper into the use of fx and sampling. You’ve been working on some tracks you’re really proud of and you’ll get some time today to continue improving these tracks.  

After class, you decide to meet up with some friends from class to check out a local live music venue downtown. There’s a great band playing and you could use the time to chill before heading home to work on some school projects. Let’s do this again tomorrow, shall we? New day, new classes, new opportunities.

We have excellent graduation employment stats from our 3D Animation graduates, so a Degree is not necessary for employment in this industry. You can enjoy the benefits of our small class sizes, mentorship, and focused education to get you working sooner! However, if you wish to carry on your education in pursuit of a Degree, we have established pathways from our program with the University of Gloucestershire in Scotland, and BCIT! 

We love this question! While there may be some benefits to being a “jack-of-all-trades” as an animator, we firmly believe that the best route to lasting career success as an animator is specialization. When you stretch yourself to learn both 2D and 3D animation simultaneously, you may find yourself in future work situations where you feel out of your depth or comfort zone. At CAT, we’ve chosen to deliver 2D and 3D animation separately. We feel the differences between 2D and 3D are too great for students to get to the level of comprehension and mastery required by animation studios in the industry, even for entry-level positions.  

So yes, you will have to decide on 2D or 3D animation before applying to CAT and our Advisors can assist with this decision. And don’t worry, if you decide to start in 2D, but feel drawn to 3D during your program, you can always transition to 3D and vice versa. No matter your path, we’re here to make this work for you. You love this room – filled with cool art on the ceiling and drawing tablets for every student. On the way to class, you remember you need to sign out a tablet pen from the Equipment Cage. So, you quickly stop by, say hi to the Campus Service Assistance Team, grab your pen and dash off to class. This class is Digital Painting and today you’re going to be learning how to make your own custom brushes in Photoshop! 

After the second class, you have a free block, so you grab a spot in the Student Lounge and work on some digital painting for an upcoming assignment. Lunchtime! You take a break and hit up one of the many great eateries in the Landmark Plaza area. Mmmmm….pizza is on the menu today.
